Adding Apps to Nvidia Shield

You can get a ton of apps in the Google Play Store on the Nvidia Shield. But I know you are looking for third-party stores. First, you are going to need to download Downloader from the Google Play Store. Without Downloader it’s going to be a little more difficult to get the APKs onto the device.

APKs are Android Package Kits, you can not find these in the Google Play Store. You can only find APKs in third-party stores, on GitHub, or on the APK website. Knowing you are looking for APKs will make your search on Google a lot easier. Looking for the phrase, add apps to Nvidia Shield, is not going to find you much.

So, let’s jump into these third-party APK stores. My two favorites when I started were APKPure and APKMirror. Now other people you will see online use the Aurora Store, Aptoide Store, or Aptoide TV.

No, I don’t use the other three shops at all. Everyone has their own way of adding APKs to the Nvidia Shield. First, I could never get the Aurora Store to work even though I have it. Second, I never really liked the APKs in Aptoide.

I do have more shops I love to check out but those developers have asked people not to share on social media without permission. I will respect their wishes and not share their information for fear of being shut down. But I will share below how I came across them.

How do you come across these APK stores online?

I spend hours and hours online a day looking for just 1 great APK to add to our Elite System. Most of the time I do just come across things from what people say in chat groups and sometimes come across them by looking for them.

I mostly come across the APK itself first. I download them and test them out. After that, I want to know where the APK came from. Is there a stand-alone site or GitHub where I can get the original APK? You want the original APK, not the ad-free version. The original APK gets updates through the APK, whereas in ad-free APKs it’s a mod version blocking the update of the APK. All these little details must play in your mind when looking for APKs.

You will look for an adblocker or adguard when dealing with the original APK. The great part about the adblocker or adguard is that it has a built-in VPN. If you have your own VPN it’s not needed. When you turn your VPN on it will turn off the adblocker or adguard and you don’t want that. So don’t use your VPN.

Now, once in an APK you like, you can go through the APK and get the site or download of the original APK. But you really have to look. Some information is hidden away in settings somewhere. But you really have to study the APK. The only APK I’ve come across with no information on how to download the original is UK Turks. We think we finally found it but we are not too sure this is the real site for the APK.

You want to run VirusTotal before you really jump onto this site or even download the APK. When running the APK through VirusTotal I will say the APK was crazy red but people say this is the original APK. So with an APK like that it’s best to get the Ad-Free mod version of the APK. But it’s really up to you when dealing with APK that flag as red on VirusTotal.

Here is a tip: if you are running Android 11 be aware that some amazing APKs are blocked. If you were to download an APK and you don’t see it on the device, that APK is blocked. I don’t know nor understand how this was done on Android 11 but it is.

My best advice to you is to flash your Nvidia Shield Pro and downgrade it back to Android 9 version 8.2.1. We have a free video of this on our Video Page, good luck.

If you choose to keep running Android 11 I won’t be able to help. I don’t have anything with Android 11 so I wouldn’t be able to give too much assistance other than get yourself a cache cleaning APK. My favorite one is super easy to use called DangBei Assistance. DBA can clear up to 1,000 MB per run until it gets to 99.

If you have a day job it’s going to be hard to do what it is we do here but you can do it if you want. This is our day job so we have all the time in the world and all the passion in the world to collect the greatest APKs in the world and add them to our Elite System.
