We can jailbreak any and all streaming devices but we like to focus on the top tier 3 that will last for years. Today, we are going over one of my favorite Jailbroken Devices. Which is the Jailbroken Apple Tv 4K 3rd Generation.

Why?

This is the only reason why you even need a SmartDNS for an Apple Tv. Is if the Apple Tv is Jailbroken. If you have just Kodi on the Apple Tv you are good to go, there is no need for a SmartDNS at this moment. If you have other IPAs on the Jailbroken Apple Tv, you are going to need a SmartDNS to hide what the Apple Tv is streaming.

Once you hook up your Apple Tv to your Internet Router it’s given a very common DNS Address 196.168.1.1 or something similar to this. On some rental Routers, that you get from your Internet Provider you can change the DNS on the Router. But not if you have Spectrum you are out of luck, they will not let you.

The bad part is that this is 100% illegal for the Internet Provider to do. But they who has the gold, make the rules. Lucky for you we are not looking to change the DNS on the Router. I’ll explain more below.

Privacy

Let me start by letting you know, you have the right to internet privacy. This is where a DNS comes into play. A DNS is not to be mistaken for a VPN they are totally different.

DNS stands for Domain Name System. DNS turns a domain name into an IP Address which browsers use to load internet pages. We want to focus on the loading pages for SmartDNS.

Have you heard of Asia Pacific Network Information Centre? Maybe not but you have heard of their partners CloudFlare DNS and the very cool 1.1.1.1 / 1.0.0.1 code for DNS, hopefully. Hold your horses, don’t go running to type this in just yet.

This DNS 1.1.1.1 / 1.0.0.1 is a replacement for the default DNS that comes on your Apple Tv. Yes, we are replacing the DNS on the Apple Tv device, not the Router. The only problem is that the CloudFlare DNS 1.1.1.1 / 1.0.0.1 can be slow and not always work as you want.

It’s ok, we have another one that is working like a charm for Apple TVs. How do we know? We have been testing it out on the Jailbroken Apple Tv 4Ks we sell for the last 2 months.

Different SmartDNS Companies

Paid SmartDNS and which companies work. Personally, this is hard to say. We here at Devices (D3vicx) had Surfshark but their SmartDNS system went down 4 months ago and is still down.

Before this happened we had their SmartDNS on our test Jailbroken Apple TVs and it worked great.

I do hear great things about ExpressVPN and their SmartDNS system. My only problem with this company is that they are in the middle of a lawsuit with Big Cable Companies. I’m not sure why Big Cable Companies decided to sue ExpressVPN when there are so many more popular ones. But because of this lawsuit, we decided not to go with ExpressVPN just yet.

IPVanish has a SmartDNS and at the moment it is up and running. Clearly, they have their own SmartDNS system.

The problem with paid SmartDNS services is that we don’t know if they belong to the company that is selling them to us. It’s great to have a working SmartDNS for your Jailbroken Apple Tv. Since Surfshark SmartDNS went down so long ago I decided to reach out to see if we could get any credit. They gave us their Terms of Service instead, bad move.

Here are the Terms of Service from Surfshark I was given.

Our Jailbroken Apple Tv 4K & the Free SmartDNS

Yes, there is a free SmartDNS that we have just come across that works on our Jailbroken Apple Tv 4Ks. I’m not saying this will work on everyone Jailbroken Apple Tv 4K but you can go ahead and give it a try like we did.

We have added DNSs to all our Jailbroken Devices. They are all different depending on the software system the streaming device uses.

On Apple Tv when in Settings then go down to Network, and click on your Network. You should see your DNS at the bottom, you want to Turn on Manual and use code: 001.001.001.002. If you need a backup code try code: 001.000.000.002. The 2s are for Apple devices and to help block out Malware.

Like I said if you have just Kodi on your Apple Tv, you don’t need a SmartDNS from my experience. If you are getting flagged by your Internet Provider. Use this code from Cloudflare it’s 100% Free.

So no need of buying a SmartDNS anymore. The Cloudflare DNS gives you privacy when streaming content. I’m not too sure if it’s the same when downloading but you can give it a try and comment down below to let me know.
