What you don’t know Motherland: Fort Salem, where have you been under a rock. This amazing show came about last year right before the pandemic. It rolled into the pandemic and lucky it was green-lighted for a season 2 which is now streaming live weekly on Freeform, then posted on Hulu the next day, heard of it? Well, this network Freeform picked up this series and I must say Motherland: Fort Salem is great. The Plot of the Salem Witch Trails turning into something more beautiful rather than the mess, we read about in our real history books of women being burned alive.

In this alternate universe, One Witch, Sarah Alder fought back after witnessing the death of her sister. From there she came to a truce with the US and created the New US Army of Witches and yes men can be witches too, but rather rare it seems in this world. I will not spoil it in this blog because this series is just too great, it needs to be watched. “All of the gender norms are flipped, who run the world Girls, but we do it alongside everybody else. The LGBTQ+ is represented beautifully, men have a beautiful space in the world”, Demetria McKinney (Anacostia Quartermaine) says in an interview. Everything we worry about when it comes to sexual orientation equal rights is natural here as the everyday normal which it should be. I will say all the ladies with natural hair, keep an eye on Anacostia Quartermaine hairstyles, they are mind-blowing. And something really of the future to where natural hairstyling will go. This is a big shout-out to the hairstyles on this show… I’m looking you up right now, nevermind Demetria McKinney does her own hair!

But I will give you a little of the plot. Three young witches, Raelle Collar, Abigail Bellweather, and Tally Craven answers the call of joining the US Army of Witch at Fort Salem. These ladies are a unit so they will eat, sleep and train together as a unit to try and get into War College from Basic Training. Lucky for these three young ladies Anacostia Quartermaine is their Drill Sergeant, so it’s her job to train them and make sure they stay alive.

From War College you train as a Witch Covenant on your specialty, I will not say which job each lady gets. It looks like after War College you get married and have children for 5 years before you are sent off to fight in the wars. It’s important to have a daughter to continue your family bloodline of Witches for the Army and yourself. The twist is all Three of these ladies are the last of their bloodlines in their families so it’s odd they are a unit as well.
