The Plot

This is a great discovery for the whole LGBTQ+ community then and now. To know we had rich women in high places who live openly and were married in the 1800s is incredible. So why did we fight for marriage for so many years? This information was hidden for so many more years due to Anne Listers’ family. This story of Anne Lister and Ann Walker lets me know that it’s a myth about lesbians and women being bad with money, a terrible myth at that.

My young gays, please know with money you can do what you like in this world. Both of these ladies had a lot of land, and tenants, plus they started a coal business together. I will say Ann Walker was the purse and Anne Lister was the visionary. It’s great that Anne Lister kept details of everything in her journals about her life, the town, and the people she knew.

A show like this lets us know the sky really is the limit. Anne Lister loved education even though she wasn't allowed to go to college. Really no woman was educated past the level of high school back then. So the library and bookshops were very important to a woman like Anne Lister. As Anne Lister and Ann Walker remodel their home, Shibden Hall, Anne Lister added in her own personal library, collecting books from all over the world.

Season 1 is incredible and I can’t wait to see Season 2, which they have been caught filming all over London here and there.
