Now because Lady De Carrouges is married, she is the property of her husband. The husband is her sworn protector and fights as her champion against the accused. The statement from Marguerite De Carrouges never changed not once, and the case went on for years. The accused was Jacques Le Gris was known for having his way with the ladies one way or another. So Le Gris could get away with murder because he was one of d’Alencon’s favorite people to have around.

Due to this Sir De Carrouges knew it would have been pointless to bring it up to Lord d’Alencon. Instead, he rode three days to Paris and talk with King Charles VI directly and request a duel to the death in person. Sir De Carrouges knew this would be the only way to solve this problem between him and his ex-friend Jacques Le Gris. It’s known that Le Gris did like Lady, Marguerite De Carrouges, knowing she is was married to his friend. But not even Le Gris's own lawyer believed him, about not forcefully taking Lady De Carrouges against her will. Now in the movie, it’s shown as a game, but in the written language, both men held her down as she shouted for help inside her own home.

This is an incredible story because the husband stood by his wife and fought as her Champion. Now, I know some people would look at it as, ok Sir De Carrouges was trying to show face.
