Today I want to talk about the Brand New Fire TV Stick 4K Max 2023. Is it worth buying due to a few of the upgrades they added to the device?
The upgrades were very minimal on both devices the Fire TV Stick 4K and the Fire TV Stick 4K Max. You really couldn’t get any less of an upgrade to a streaming device than they did to these ones.
It is a little confusing because they released the Fire TV Stick 4K 2023 and Fire TV Stick 4K Max 2023.
We will not be talking about the Fire TV Stick 4K 2023, it’s a waste of time and your money, so we are going to skip that one altogether. But the price is $49.99 for about 30% more speed, and the same gigabyte space of 8GB.
The Fire TV Stick 4K Max 2023 is what I want to dive into. Is it worth picking up in 2023/2024?

Fire TV Stick 4K Max 2023 Specs
Brand New Fire TV Stick 4K Max 2023 with 16GB
Let us see what they upgraded in the Brand New Fire TV Stick 4K Max 2023. They took the gigabyte space from 8GB to 16GB. This is a smart move, this is something that should have been done back in 2020.
No streaming device should be less than 16GB in 2023 going into 2024. And if is it less than the 16GB it should have an option to expand the storage. This is going to be the most important spec about a streaming device.
Good job here Amazon, you finally did something right.
Next, Amazon took the processor from a 1.8 to 2.0 GHz quad-core processor. Here they could have done a little more with the RAM. But I’m not shocked the Fire TV Cube 3, is also a 2.0 GHz quad-core processor. It’s ok but they could have done better.
The quad-core processor is going to make a big difference in speed for these cheap streaming devices. This will also give you an idea of how long the streaming device will last along with the software.
Fire OS 8 Ambient Experience
The Fire TV Stick 4K Max 2023 will have Amazon Fire OS 8 with Fire TV Ambient Experience. Now to me, this is interesting, but it reminds me of the mess APPLE with the iPhone pulls on people.
Look at the new look of the Home Screen rather than adding on the one thing we the people have asked for the most. I gave them an A+ on the look upgrade, you will no longer need to have a Customized Launcher on the Fire TV Stick 4K Max. But the Home Screen will still be a mess of shit you don’t want, great.
Amazon “This device receives guaranteed software security updates until at least four years after the device is last available for purchase as a new unit on our websites.”
From my personal experience with Fire TV Sticks, since 2013 each year they needed to be replaced due to software security updates messing up the little streaming device.
Hopefully, this one will be different but it’s not keeping up with Premium Streaming Devices such as Apple TV 4K and Nvidia Shield TV Pro. When those streaming devices say for years, the feel of the built quality backs it up. I’ll take this with a grain of salt Amazon.
Wi-Fi 6E, so many people are excited about this feature. And yet 92% of the people on earth have no clue what this even means. Should you chase after this feature of Wi-Fi 6E?

If your Wi-Fi box does not even support Wi-Fi 6E, this is not a feature you should care about unless you plan on upgrading to Wi-Fi 6E. This is a feature you should only be looking into when it comes to buying a streaming device if you have the Wi-Fi 6E.
Certain features in a streaming device will mostly depend on your home's internet setup. If your setup is basic Wi-Fi 5 and you are fine with that, then this is not important. If your home’s internet setup is for Wi-Fi 6E devices only. You should be looking into streaming devices like this.

Firestick 4K Max 2023 vs TiVo Stream 4K 2020 in 2023
In this section, I want to line the specs up for the Brand New Fire TV Stick 2023 vs our favorite budget-friendly streaming device the TiVo Stream 4K. Disclaimer: The TiVo Stream 4K came out in 2020 and this Fire TV Stick Max is the 2023 model. Keep this in mind.
Fire OS 8 vs Android 10.
Here we go Amazon Fire OS vs Android which is better. I love Android, I think Android 9 and Android 10 systems are the best for customizing a streaming device.
Fire OS 8 has come so far you can no longer customize anything on a Fire TV Stick kind of like Android 11, there for I stay away from software systems like that. You cannot stop Fire OS from updating and you cannot downgrade Fire OS systems.
I will say it’s good because they are upgrading Fire OS systems to help you find more content faster. But will I be willing to give it a chance over the great Android 10 that is running on the TiVo Stream 4K? Maybe, I can only try it out before giving my total thought to the Fire OS 8 system.
The winner is the TiVo Stream 4K with Android 10.
I prefer to have the power in my hands to customize my streaming device. And if I need to downgrade the software, I still have that option. It’s all about control over my streaming devices personally.
16 GB of space vs 8 GB of space with expanded storage option.
Jailbroken Nvidia Shield Pro Home Screen
Here is where Amazon dropped the ball. Yes, you finally upgraded the space in your Brand New Fire TV Stick 4K 2023 to the same as the Nvidia Shield TV Pro. You left one thing out.
The ability to expand the storage on the streaming device. This to me and it should be to you as well the most important part when choosing a streaming device. You have to be able to expand that storage in 2023 rolling into 2024.
Now, I’m not going to knock 16GB of space. That is a huge upgrade in its own right for a Fire TV Stick, yea. But to become King of the budget-friendly streaming device, you have to give the people what they want and that is gigabyte space.
You can buy add-ons that you can connect to the Brand New Fire TV Stick 4K Max 2023 to expand its storage. I’ll list that on the side. I just wished they put it into the streaming device itself. That would have killed out every other company trying to compete.
With the TiVo Stream 4K, you can add on expanded storage to the streaming device physically. No need to buy all these other add-ons like you will with the Fire TV Stick 4K Max. By the time you are done paying for the add-ons you may as well bought the Nvidia Shield Tv Pro.

New Live TV feature vs Built-in TV Guide access on remote control.
This I will say is my favorite topic Live TV. Everyone is looking for Free Live TV, but it also comes down to the quality of the Live TV Channels. The TiVo Stream 4K has a built-in TV Guide on the streaming device. You can easily access this by pushing a button on the TiVo Stream 4K remote. By the way, amazing remote control by TiVo.
Fire TV Stick has been adding this feature into its software system slowly over the last few years. I don’t believe it’s a button on the remote that can get you right to the TV Guide, but at this moment the Fire TV Stick 4K Max 2023 is not out for me to see. Hopefully, there will be a button for this. I’m wrong there is a button I see it. This is great and a game changer. Amazon thought this one through with the Live TV button on the remote control.
This would now come down to the Live TV content on the systems.
With the TiVo Stream 4K, you only have Plex for free. You can add-on Sling TV, but it will cost you monthly. You can only host one application with Free Live TV on the TV Guide with the TiVo Stream 4K. With the Fire TV Stick 4K Max it looks like you can have all the free Live TV applications on one TV Guide. Amazon picked up the game and ran for a touchdown with this feature for sure.

The Brand New Fire TV Stick 4K Max 2023, is not bad at all. I’ll give you my thoughts as a whole below. Will this dethrone the Mighty TiVo Stream 4K in our shop?

In Conclusion
Overall, I’m excited to check out the Brand New Fire TV Stick 4K Max 2023.
Mostly to see if our Elite System can work on the Fire OS 8 platform. If the Elite System works well on the Brand New Fire TV Stick 4K Max 2023 we will replace it with the Jailbroken TiVo 4K in our shop.
Update: On January 20th, 2024 the New Fire TV Stick Max 2023 was given the Lite Elite System and you can now pick up one at our shop.
Making it the Jailbroken Fire TV Stick 4K Max 2023 for $195 with Free Priority Shipping in the US. Most likely we will expand the storage on the device to 256GB as a free add-on feature.
We are going to wait, and see come September 29th, 2023. On paper the TiVo Stream 4K still wins over the Brand New Fire TV Stick 4K Max 2023. This is my opinion due to what we look for in Premium Streaming Devices.
This Fire TV Stick 4K Max was almost there, it had the chance to win out but they didn’t. We will still give it a chance in our shop and with our Elite System.
