With frequent updates, Apple seems to be pushing back against sideloading, making it increasingly difficult to maintain the flawless performance we achieved when we first started offering these systems in 2021. While sideloading on Apple devices is experiencing a resurgence (the trend dates back to 2016), the question remains: is the process going to get better or worse? Looking ahead, I believe it’s about to get worse before it gets better.

Apple’s New Provisioning Policy
Starting in 2025, Apple’s Provisioning Policy will bring significant changes for anyone sideloading apps or systems onto Apple devices. Here’s the main issue: every time your developer account needs to be renewed, you’ll now have to reload your device from scratch.
This adds a frustrating layer of inconvenience, especially for developers. Imagine you’ve spent time perfecting an IPA for Apple, and when your account expires, you’re forced to reload everything back onto your device. This isn’t just a hassle for developers—it’s also a problem for anyone using sideloaded devices like Jailbroken Apple TV 4Ks.
Apple’s move feels like a direct response to the rising popularity of jailbroken devices, targeting sellers by creating a yearly reloading requirement. For users, this could mean sending your device back to the seller for a reload, depending on how it was initially sideloaded.

The Autowidget Error in GAME ON Build
Another challenge with the Jailbroken Apple TV 4K lies in the instability of certain builds. Many Kodi developers aren’t even aware that Kodi can run on an Apple TV, so they often don’t test their builds for compatibility with the device.
This has been especially true with my favorite build, GAME ON. While it’s one of the best Kodi builds available, it’s also one of the slowest to receive updates. When Kodi transitioned from version 20.5 to 21, the GAME ON build was down for five months before the developer addressed the issue.
Currently, the Autowidget feature in GAME ON is causing problems specifically for Apple TV users. The interface shortcuts aren’t displaying properly, and instead, users are met with errors. After investigating, I discovered that this issue can only be fixed by the developer. Unfortunately, reaching the developer isn’t an option—they didn’t leave contact information in the build or provide any forums or groups for support.
This lack of support makes it challenging to rely on builds like GAME ON when using a Jailbroken Apple TV 4K. While it’s still a powerful streaming device, these hiccups highlight the limitations users may face.

Why We’re Phasing Out Jailbroken Apple TV 4Ks

At the start of 2024, we phased out the TiVo 4K Stream, largely due to its outdated 32-bit OS. Now, as we approach 2025, the Apple TV 4K finds itself on the chopping block as well—but with a slight twist.
While I can’t reveal all the details yet, I can say that we’re entering a new phase for the Apple TV 4K. Once we finalize this chapter, we’ll make a big announcement. For now, though, I’m keeping our plans close to the chest.
