Nvidia Shield Pro, Plex Server Setup
Hello Everyone and Thanks for stopping by our blog, Nvidia Shield Pro, Plex Server Setup. We are Devices (D3vicx), and we specialize in customizing and sideloading premium streaming devices so you can watch Paid TV Entertainment for Free.
This Plex server setup will be happening on a Jailbroken Nvidia Shield Pro. Something very different than normal. The reason why is that I can download Movies, TV Series, Anime, and more onto the Jailbroken Nvidia SHield Pro and then transfer the files. They will then pop up on your Plex.
The only difference is that a few of the APKs I have on the Jailbroken Nvidia Shield Pro can download content directly onto the device for me. This will be the only difference in the setup unless you have an APK that does the same.

Will I need a Drive to set up a Plex Server using my Nvidia Shield Pro?
Yes, you may want to add on some kind of Drive. Today I’m using a NAS Drive to make this even more powerful and cool.
I have a Synology NAS Drive that is plugged into my Jailbroken Nvidia Shield Pro and the ethernet cable for maximum power. You can use an SSD Drive for this if you don’t have the Nas Drive. You can use a USB for this if you don’t have an SSD Drive.
Do not format your drive to the drive. It’s going to ask you when you plug in what you plan on using. If you format it everything will be erased.
The drive is going to host all your content.
The Nvidia Shield Pro will serve as my server with the help of the NAS Drive. Meaning, your Nvidia Shield Pro can not go to sleep. Don’t worry the NAS Drive doesn’t sleep and I’m not sure how much power it pulls either but the ability to gain access to your content from anywhere is great.

Setting up your Nvidia Shield Pro for the Plex Setup
To be very clear, I’m using a Jailbroken Nvidia Shield Pro running Android 9 version 8.2.1. Most of you will be using a Nvidia Shield Pro running Android 11. I would recommend flashing the system and downgrading it back to Android 9.
I personally do not know how this will work with Android 11. If you follow the blog direction and it works, great. Please let us know, so we can let others with Android 11 know as well.
I’m going to be using my Jailbroken Nvidia Shield Pro to download Movies, TV Series, and Anime onto the device and then transfer them onto my Synology drive with the rest of my media content. I download music files on my phone using a combo of Free Spotify Premium and Spotflyer.
Yea sorry, I’m doing some crazy stuff over here with my Nvidia Shield Pro and Plex.
Have your Nvidia Shield Pro on and head over to Settings at the top, click on it. Go down to Device Preference Click, About Click. Go down to Built and click on it 7 times until you see the “You are now a Developer” pop-up. Click back on your remote one, and down to Developers Opiton. Once in Developer Opition go down into you see Network debugging, turn it on. Keep going down, you are looking to have your Nvidia Shield in No Sleep Mode.
Back out of the Developers option and go back up to Storage.
Hit back on the remote and head to Apps. Go in and down to See All Apps, and then they all pop open scroll down to see if you see Plex and Plex Media Server. If you don’t see them, go into the Google Play Store and download them both.
When you first run Plex on the Nvidia Shield Pro there is a box to Enable the Plex Media Server, go ahead and check that box. The check box may be really small, down at the button.
The Plex Server Setup to the Nvidia Shield Pro
The Nvidia Shield Pro 2019 will act as the Plex Server. I using a NAS Drive to hook mine up and it’s the Synology 2-Bay DiskStation DS223j with 2TB drives. The Nas Drive is used to store our media somewhere else on the network.
With this setup like this, the Nvidia Shield Pro should be able to pull the media we have on the NAS Drive over the network from the Synology still transcode it, and deliver it to the device through the Plex application.
Please Note: In this blog, we are not going to go over how to setup Plex on the Nvidia Shield Pro nor how to setup the Synology. All this is done already, so if you need to do this please do that first. We will be working with a MOD 64-bit version of Plex on the Jailbroken Nvidia Shield Pro. Use what you have in the Google Play Store.
Once you have your Nvidia Shield Pro on and plugged in, please plug in your ethernet cable for the strongest connection and hook up the Synology to the back of the Nvidia Shield Pro in one of the 3.0 USBs. When going through this would you suggest WiFi, No. You need a strong connection that will not break to ensure maximum performance.
With your Nvidia Shield Pro on go into your Settings, don’t go into Plex just yet. You have to connect the Nvidia Shield Pro over the network to the Synology. Once in Settings go down to Device Preference. Go into Storage and down to Transfer files over the local network, Turn On. Stay in storage, and go down to Mount Network Storage and select that option. Once on the new page, you should see you plug in storage go ahead and click on yours. Once you select your device on the network you should see Connect as a registered user or Connect as a guest.
I’m going to Connect as a registered user. Type in your username and password and click on next. From there the device is going to connect to my Synology drive over the network. Once connected at the top you will see it say, My Network Storage (Synology) Connected. If you click on Synology you will see that the device is mounted.
From here I’m going to go over to my computer to setup a library in my Plex server. Make sure you are signed into your Plex Server account. The Plex server is Free but you can upgrade to a paid version if you like. I’m not going to do that, I just need the free version at this time to create a Movie folder. Once on your computer on your web borrower in Plex, go to Settings then down to More.
We are going to add a Movie folder in the Plex to get things set up.
Hover over Movies and the three dots will pop up. Click on the three dots and move down to Manage Libray, another window will pop out. Check on Edit, down to Add Folders, and Browse For Media Folder. You should be looking at your drive, you will see the folder options. Click the Add button, once you locate the folder you are pulling from.
A window will pop up Add Folder, you should see the storage and folder. Click on where you are hosting the video and Add. Click on Save Changes. Go back over to the side, Settings where you see Movies, Click on the three dots, Manage Library, and Refresh All Metadata. At the top of the page go over to Libray, right next to Recommended. The Plex Server will start screening the movies you have that you want loaded.
From there you can test it out on your Phone or the Plex app on the Nvidia Shield Pro. The coolest play you can go back onto the Plex Server on your computer and pull up the Shield Server-Dashboard and see what is playing where. Plus the video format and audio. Look down a little more on the page and you can see the Bandwidth in real time.
The content itself is going to be on your Drive but will be transferred to the Nvidia Shield Pro for transcoding. Remember when using Plex it doesn’t start but so fast due to the transcoding.
The best thing about me hooking up the Synology is that it will always auto-connect back to the Nvidia Shield Pro until I disconnect it.

Which files can the Plex Server Transcode
Can the Plex server transcode AV1 files, yes. Plex server can transcode all file types making it a must-have on a Jailbroken Nvidia Shield Pro. Plex words are, “Media that is incompatible with your device will be transcoded to a playable format. The process is automatic and you don’t need to worry about specific details.”
With this information, it’s important to note the best way to transcode is to the a Plex Media Server on a CPU for the best performance. Now, what does that mean to me, if I choose to use my Jailbroken Nvidia Shield Pro this is going to be a lot slower. That is fine, I understand this.

In Conclusion
Make your Jailbroken Nvidia Shield Pro the coolest ever with this neat little trick. Again, because my streaming device is Jailbroken I can download Movies, TV Series, Anime, and more directly onto my device. From there I can use Xplore to transfer my files to the Synology and jump onto my computer to make sure the movie is being read through Plex on the website.
Sorry if I just blew up your brain. As I’m learning this I’m trying to write it all down in a language I can come back and read.
I’m most likely not done with this blog. I have to add in the photos for sets and even more information I just found. Stay tuned.
