What is Plex?

Why is my Plex Media Server directory so large?

Plex Media Server directories can become quite large over time as they accumulate files from the various media added to the server. This can include Tv series, movies, anime, audiobooks, music, podcasts, and photos.

The data directory for the Plex Media Server is packed with information about your server setup. The main library file includes your database file with your library data and metadata, artwork, caches, and other things.

The majority of the space in a standard Plex Media Server installation will be devoted to metadata, especially artwork. Those should be in the Metadata and Media directories. It's not unusual for installs to consume several gigabytes of disk space. It's also possible that sync files use up a significant amount of space if you utilize Mobile Sync.

Let's talk about why my Plex Media Server directory is so large. I have something called the Elite System from D3vicx, I took their Online Course and loaded it up on my Nvidia Shield Tv. I guess this then turned my device into a Jailbroken Nvidia Shield Tv Pro now. What I like most about the Elite System is that I can stream everything and download so many movies and tv series to add to my Plex Media Server. With the course, I was also able to add the Elite System onto my android phone, which was shocking and cool.

Your Plex Media Server will preprocess the files before they're ready to sync when you create a sync job for Mobile Sync. If you start a vast synchronization job (for example, the entire season or series of a television program or many motion pictures), you'll need to make sure everything is ready before it syncs. That means they'll be taking up a lot of hard drive space until the sync is finished.

There are a few things that you can do to help keep your Plex Media Server directory size down:

  • Download low MB links in the Elite System

  • Use QuickTime player Export to optimize the size of the file

  • Use the Plex Media Server optimized for your device

  • Enable caching of media files

  • Compact your library periodically

  • Use a large gigabyte hard drive or use a Nas drive to store the files

By following these tips, you can help keep your Plex Media Server directory space down and ensure running smoothly when watching downloaded content.

Why should I use Plex?

Plex is a great way to keep it organized and easy to access when growing your extensive media library. Plex can also provide a better streaming experience than your built-in media player. For example, if you have a lot of movies and TV shows, Plex can automatically fetch movie trailers and extras and make them available to you while you're watching. Plex also offers powerful search capabilities that let you find the same movie or TV show you want to watch in seconds.

There are many reasons to use Plex:

  • Rich libraries with cover art and metadata

  • Stream to any device

  • Parental controls

  • Personalized recommendations

  • A wide range of supported devices

  • Free and premium versions are available

To organize and stream your video, music, and photo collections, Plex is the perfect solution.

Live TV plus DVR and Elite System:

With the Elite System, you have access to International Live Tv channels from countries around the world for free (10K Channels). Within Plex, you may watch and record live TV if you have an HD antenna and a suitable OTA receiver. All of your recorded programs will be accessible through the same easy interface as the rest of your collection, with only the amount of recording time restricted by the amount of hard drive space on your Plex server.

You will need to select a device to install and run the Plex Media Server for this.

You have the following options:

  • On a PC, Mac, Linux, or FreeBSD computer

  • Nvidia Shield TV Pro (2019) or Nvidia Shield TV (2017/2015)

  • Sony Bravia Tv or Android Tv

  • Apple Tv 4K, Google Tv Chromecast, MeCool KM6, or Mi Box S 4K

  • The Netgear Nighthawk X10 wireless router

  • Supported with network-attached storage devices (NAS)

  • Installing Plex?

When taking the D3vicx Online Course, the Elite System has a great version of Plex that's 100% open source and Free.

Or once you've read this guide and installed the necessary components, go to the Plex site, and download and install the software on your computer.

Step 1:

Download the appropriate installer and follow the on-screen instructions. The media server will create a new browser window with the Plex web app after installation.

Step 2:

The web app is your primary method of configuring the Plex server, but it may also be used to browse your collection and play movies on your computer. If you're running Plex Media Server on a Windows computer, head to the Settings menu and launch the app. Open the Plex program's preferences on a Mac by searching for "preferences" in Spotlight or launching it from Applications.

Step 3:

The Plex Media Server will automatically scan all the directories you specified during setup, and you may adjust how often they are checked for changes. You may also enable automatic updating of your Plex library whenever new content is downloaded.

To Conclude:

We know Plex sounds very complicated but once you start to use it you will notice it is not. Having the Elite System will take your Plex to the next level. Even if you have Android 11 on your Nvidia Shield Tv, this will be a great way around some of those new problems. Plex allows you to organize and centralize your media collection in several ways, including playing it back on any device at any time. For this reason, we propose Plex for those of you who wish to manage and retrieve their media. What are you waiting for? Go ahead and take the D3vicx Online Course and get starting today streaming your favorite content worldwide.
